  • IMMUNIZATION AND WELLNESS CARE

We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heartworm and flea control; a customized vaccine protocol; spay and neuter packages; dental cleanings, diet recommendations and specialized blood tests for all life stages.  We also feel every pet in Savannah needs to be on a heartworm prevention and Frontline for flea control.

In an attempt to alleviate vaccines which may not be needed for your pet, the doctors at Case Veterinary Hospital tailor each pet's vaccination schedule based on their lifestyle and the latest recommendations made by the AVMA and AAHA.  We will determine your pet's vaccine requirements based on your answers to a survey filled out by you at the time of your Wellness visit.

  • LAPAROSCOPY

Already standard in human medicine, this minimally invasive method of surgery is performed within the abdomen using a tiny camera and instruments which are inserted through two or three small holes instead of opening the abdomen through a long incision.  It’s less invasive, therefore less painful, and has a decreased risk of infection.  This method of surgery also allows for less hospital time, faster recovery and fewer complications. From routine spays to complicated surgical treatment of cancer, laparoscopy is becoming the standard of care at Case Veterinary Hospital for not only our own patients but for those that are referred to us by surrounding veterinarians.

  • ENDOSCOPY

    FLEXIBLE AND RIGID ENDOSCOPY

This technology allows thorough examination of the interior of the esophagus, stomach, and intestine as well as the colon with a tiny camera fed through the patient’s mouth or anus. This approach also enables our doctors to retrieve biopsies and even swallowed foreign objects without needing to surgically open the abdomen or make an incision of any kind. Patients are home and pain–free hours after the procedure rather than spending days in the hospital recovering from an open abdominal surgery.

Endoscopy also allows the removal of bladder stones without surgically opening the abdomen. Pending the size of the patient and the stone within their bladder, the doctors at Case Veterinary Hospital are able to enter the bladder through the urethra with a small scope to find, visualize, grasp and retrieve a stone without ever making a single incision.

This new technology is revolutionizing the standard of care at Case Veterinary Hospital as we are consistently learning ways in which the equipment allows less invasive, less painful alternatives to traditional surgery through abdominal incisions.

  • ULTRASONOGRAPHY

Dr. Dasher takes referrals for ultrasonography on Tuesdays of each week.  Savannah and outlining area veterinarians refer cases that need ultrasound diagnostics.  We are proud to be able to offer her level of experience to the Savannah area.

  • LASERS

Lasers are a minimally invasive alternative to traditional surgery. Lasers replace scalpels in many procedures, and are useful for a wide range of conditions, from routine spays to tumor removals. Laser procedures result in less pain; less bleeding and less swelling. They reduce risk of infection and result in less post-operative discomfort. We use the laser for ALL our routine surgeries (Spay, neuter, declaw) and most other surgical procedures.

  • SURGERY

We offer the most advanced surgical techniques and technology. All patients receive a full physical exam for safety, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. Surgical services and facilities include: fully trained veterinary and technical staff, to ensure the safest, most efficient, state-of-the-art procedures for your pet; heated surgery tables for greater comfort; advanced sterilization techniques; ECG and oxygen saturation monitors; intensive after surgery care and preanestheticl blood screening.

  • DENTAL CARE

Most pet owners don't realize that dental disease is one of the most common medical conditions.  Many dogs and cats are susceptible to dental problems.  As part of normal grooming care, you can quickly and easily inspect the teeth for signs of tartar accumulation.  Clinical dental examinations, by a Case professional, during Wellness checkups are vital.  Many pets will receive a recommendation of having a professional dental cleaning.  At that time,  our dental technician would use an ultrasound dental scaler to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. The dental technicians will polish the  teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. Fluoride treatments will be used help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity.  Similiar to your own dental visit, the veterinarian will check in with the hygienist to make sure that everything else looks fine in the mouth and no dental x-rays or extractions are warranted. Advanced dental care is also available, including root canals.  Ask your Case professional about the right dental care for your pet.

  • PAIN MANAGEMENT

Veterinary patients feel pain and discomfort under the same circumstances as people do. We know that recognizing and alleviating pain in animals is the essence of good patient care.  Our surgery patients receive pain medication to ensure the optimum in comfort before and after surgery.  We also have several medications to effectively control the pain and inflammation of arthritis.  Please let our veterinarians know if your pet is experiencing any of the following symptons:

    • Reluctance to climb stairs
    • Difficulty jumping into a vehicle
    • Stiffness after strenuous exercise or after the rest period following exercise
    • Limping
    • Difficulty rising, sitting, or equatting to defecate or urinate
    • Loss of appetite
    • Changes in behavior

    • GERIATRIC MEDICINE

Geriatric dogs and cats are those that have reached the age at which the diseases associated with aging are likely to begin.  The exact age at which this occurs varies with the individual pet and within the various breeds.  For this reason, we recommend following a senior wellness program for your older, furry family member.  This includes physical exams a minimum of twice yearly, blood and urine screening tests, and EKGs.  We also recommend special diets or nutritional supplements depending on your pet's lifestyle.

Ideally, caring for your geriatric pet should focus on preventative measures.  Whenever possible, it is better to prevent a problem from occuring, rather than to wait for a problem to develop.  Detecting disease in the early stages greatly improves the outcome.

    • RADIOLOGY

Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate musculo-skeletal, cardiovascular(cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems.

    • NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING

Some pets require special food, and all pets benefit from a balanced diet. Our trained and certified staff is available to help you choose the right diet for your pet to keep him or her happy, healthy and active. Also, our veterinarians can help your pet safely achieve their optimal body weight through weight reduction diets.

    • MICROCHIPPING

Microchips have helped reunite thousands of pets with their families. We offer the most widely used microchip products to increase the chances of a safe recovery.  For your pet's comfort, a perfect time to place a microchip is when your pet is undergoing a procedure that involves anesthesia.

    • BATHING

Our bath process has a four hour turn-around time from the appointment time scheduled.  Your pet will have a hydrosurge massage bath, be hand dryed, brushed out, ears cleaned, and toenails clipped.  We use Plum Silky for our baths and special or medicated shampoos can be requested for an additional fee.  The cost of a bath is dependent on the size of the pet for dogs, and for cats, although we do not suggest regularly bathing them, the price is $28, barring any need for sedation prior to the bathing process.  During holiday times be sure to book your appointments early so as to ensure your pet can receive the care that they deserve.

    • BOARDING

Our goal is to provide a safe, clean, environment for your pet for short intervals while you are away.  This is not a "home environment" for your pet, but we strive to make it a healthy one.  We are proud to be a member of American Animal Hospital Association and to have passed their stringent requirements.   All animals are placed in separate cages, on plastic grates, and are fed Science Diet food while here.  Your pet's quarters are monitored by several full-time kennel personnel and each pet is  given a physical exam by a veterinarian or a technician at the beginning of each visit.   Our boarding is totally indoors and climate controlled.  All dogs are rotated two to three times a day into our indoor runs where they can have a chance to get a little exercise and use the bathroom.  Cats are boarded in a separate room to give them a little more privacy from the dogs.

Please feel free to ask for a tour of our facilities.  Tours can be scheduled between 10:00am-4:00pm Tuesday through Saturday.

We highly recommend having your pet bathed before going home.  This bath is offered at a discounted rate and will ensure that your pet goes home clean and smelling fresh.  Pets are bathed the morning of checkout and can go home anytime after 3:00pm.  Any pet who needs the specialized grooming attention that Case provides must be prescheduled with boarding appointments and will be charged the normal fees for grooming.

Current vaccinations are necessary for the protection of all pets vacationing with us.

Special services such as extra food preparation, flea treatments, medication administration, etc. will have an additional  fee.

Due to our volume of pets and the necessity of keeping sanitary, germ-free conditions, we cannot allow special toys, treats, and bedding  from home in the kennel area.    Our staff love to pamper your pets and often give in-house treats on a regular basis.

You will be asked to leave an emergency number with us when you leave your pet.  During hurricane season, this number is especially important since we will be evacuating the area if a hurrricane evacuation is recommended.

    • GROOMING

      SERVICES WE OFFER:

      ¨       Cat Grooming

      ¨       Dog Grooming

¨       Sanitary and paw Pad Trim

      ¨       Bathing/Quick Baths

      ¨       De-shedding Program/Carding

Often times customers can become confused with the terminology we use here at the hospital.  Hopefully, the following explanation will help you to understand our process and the care your pet will receive.  Your groomer can also answer any questions you may have as well as price structure when you drop your pet off.

GROOMING:  This term is used when your pet sees one of our highly trained groomers. Many people ask why we have a five hour turn-around time from the appointment time.   The groomers will “pregroom” or “rough” in your pet, bathe him/her,  fluff dry, do another cut with a finishing blade, and then finish with scissors and a brush out to get that precision look.  Any time a pet is matted or needs special handling there is more time involved.   Nail trimming, ear cleaning and a bandana are included in your grooming fee.

DE-MATTING:  When a groomer says they will demat your pet, they usually mean they will brush the pet out as a part of the normal grooming process and will be billed out at $30/hour on top of the regular grooming price.

MATTING:   There is an extra fee for this service and is based on the amount of time it takes the groomer to remove the matts.  The severity of some matts will necessitate the groomer shaving off the matt while taking special care not to damage the skin.  Your groomer will let you know at check in what to expect for your pet.

HANDLING FEE:   An extra fee will be  charged to your grooming fee if necessary.  Some pets need extra time taken with them if they are shy, aggressive, or extremely wiggly.  Often times the groomer will need to have an assistant help with the process.   Occasionally, a pet will need sedation.  This is ONLY done by one of our veterinarians and with your consent.  Very often, cats will need to be  groomed under sedation.

CLIP:  This terminology refers to a full haircut.  Depending on the breed of your pet, a full clip is usually done every four to six weeks.

TRIM:    This terminology is used for those times when you want to shape up a cut.  The groomers will go over the pet and trim up the face, feet, tummy and tail.  This process is mainly used on long haired dogs.

MEDICATED SHAMPOOS:  Our normal shampoo used for the pets is Plum Silky and is available for our customers to buy over the counter for use at home.  Other shampoos for skin problems and allergies can be requested or recommended by our veterinarians.  These shampoos will have an extra charge associated with them.

DE-SHEDDING/CARDING:  A fairly new procedure that many of our clients have found helpful with shedding problems is our carding program.  Instead of shaving the pet, your groomer will go over the pet several times with a special tool  to remove dead hair  and some of the undercoat.  This procedure can be repeated every ___________ weeks although special care must be taken to not allow the haircoat to become too thin.  This process is especially helpful for breeds like Golden Retrievers and Labs when clients do not want to resort to a full shave down.

BATH:  Our bath process has a four hour turn-around time from your appointment.  Your pet will have a hydrosurge massage bath, be hand dryed, brushed out, ears cleaned, and toenails clipped.

ANAL GLANDS AND TEETH BRUSHING: Many clients ask our bathers and groomers to perform these services.   Brushing a pet’s teeth infrequently will not help with the tartar buildup and should be done on a daily basis to be effective.  Anal gland can actually rupture if not done properly.  For these reasons, we firmly believe that these services should be done by our veterinarians and not our groomers.
